and why I’ll be jumping ship very soon
I joined Medium in the summer of 2021. We were just coming out of a pandemic and I was excited to find a new outlet for my writing. I devoured as many articles I could on writing for Medium and dreamed about how much money I could expect to earn.
‘How I made 160 gazillion dollars on Medium: and how you can too’ screamed at me.
‘I earn 375 million dollars on Medium every week: this is how’ yelled another.
‘How to make 9,999,999 billion dollars on Medium in a day, by not doing a thing’ bragged yet another.
On and on they went.
Okay, I made those figures up, but other readers must surely know what I mean.
Well, it didn’t take me very long to realise that these writers were full of bull$h!t. The majority of them weren’t even in partner program countries, so how could they possibly earn anything? I soon learned that they were all liars.
And while I did dabble here and there, the patina on this shiny new platform very quickly became jaded.
